The Council on Developmental Disabilities is working on a project to offer Supported Decision-Making to adults with developmental disabilities to help in making medical decisions. The Council has partnered with the Lee Specialty Clinic in Louisville to make this much-needed work a reality. Volunteers for this project will serve as Medical Decision Supporters, assisting an adult with a developmental disability (known as the supported person) in understanding and making a decision regarding a medical situation they may face, along with helping the supported person in expressing their will and preferences about their decision, once it is made. The Supporter serves as a member of the supported person’s team for this decision-making process. The team works to ensure the supported person is at the center of this decision-making process.
Volunteers - including professional artists, art therapists and digital-media specialists - are working with The Council on Developmental Disabilities and Weber Gallery throughout fall/winter 2016 and spring/summer 2017 on an arts advocacy project titled "Nothing About Me Without Me." These artists will lead arts workshops for individuals with disabilities, with the project culminating in video projects and other creative works. Collaborative partners on this project include StudioWorks, Down Syndrome of Louisville and St. Mary's Center. Link here to learn more about the project.
